Articlean and it's parent company have been serving the commercial laundry market for more than 50 years. Articlean is the largest producer of ozone laundry systems in the US. Their systems are designed and built specifically for use in the commercial laundry industry. The Articlean systems utilize venturi technology, which allows the ozone to be pre-dissolved in the water before it enters the washer. This process enables them to maximize the amount of ozone that's applied during the wash cycle.
Ozone is an unstable molecule that naturally purifies the atmosphere. Ozone is produced when a high energy source, such as lightning, splits a normal oxygen (O2) molecule, and they are then reformed as three parts of oxygen (Tri-Atomic Oxygen) or O3. This phenomenon is reproduced in the ozone generator.
The O3 molecule of oxygen is weak and unstable, allowing it to virtually attack and neutralize almost anything organic that it comes in contact with. It is this instability that makes Ozone such a strong oxidizer and sanitizer. Ozone is the strongest reproducible sanitizer known to man. It is used in many industries that affect us daily. (drinking water, agriculture, deodorizing...)
It has been proven in numerous tests that in high enough concentrations, ozone is extremely effective in killing bacteria and viruses such as: HIV and Hepatitis, plus the new Superbugs: C.Diff, Aspergillus niger, and MRSA. An added bonus is that ozone is able to achieve "hygienically clean" results using COLD water formulas.
A daily challenge for commercial laundries across the country, is disinfecting items with care labels that state, "cold wash only, no bleach". If the label is followed, disinfection is sacrificed. If the label is ignored, the garment is sacrificed. Articlean eliminates this challenge altogether, with the cool, gentle ozone process. Ozone disinfects all colors and fabric types equally.
The Centers for Disease Control and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have approved the use of Ozone as a means of achieving "hygienically clean" laundry. Laboratory tests have proven that cold water (75F) ozone wash formulas can be just as effective, and in many instances, even more effective than traditional hot water (155F) laundry processes.
Traditional washing calls for the water in the detergent and bleach steps to be heated from 135F to 160F degrees. By energizing the water with ozone, these same wash steps can now be done in much cooler temperatures. The cold ozonated water provides the energy that usually comes from hot water to activate your laundry chemistry, thus reducing your hot water consumption by as much as 95%.
Ozone laundry has many attributes that make it so attractive to laundries. Apart form the sanitizing properties, Ozone also helps to soften the linen, it aids in whitening linen, plus it gives that “Clothesline Fresh” smell to your linen.
An extra benefit of the ozone process is that ozonated water causes the weave of the fabrics to relax. This not only helps to release soils, it also allows more water to be removed in the final spin. Once in the dryer, the combination of the relaxed weave and reduced water retention can result in a 10% to 30% reduction in drying times.
Replacing linen can be a huge expense. Traditional hot water wash formulas can be extremely hard on your linens. Oftentimes customers are frustrated with excessive lint conditions in drains and dryer venting. This is literally the linen going down the drain!
By washing in cold ozonated water, the cycles are much more gentle than traditional methods. This results in softer linens with less fiber loss (in the form of lint) and can significantly improve the feel and increase the longevity of your linen.
Ozone wash formulas are typically shorter than traditional methods. It is because of this, wash cycle times can be reduced by 10 to 30%. This can mean the difference between overtime and having your laundry done in one shift. Some accounts have been able to reassign or cut back laundry personnel. Reduced cycle times can result in lower costs, alleviating the need to add additional washing capacity, increased revenue, or a combination thereof.
Yes, we still need your chemicals so there's no real opportunity for savings here. Articlean works in concert with your chemicals and actually helps to enable them to work in the new cooler water temperatures.
Ozone has very powerful deodorizing capabilities. Because of this, ozone has been used by fire restoration companies to treat household goods and clothing with smoke odor for decades. Hotels also use small ozone machines to treat rooms with cigarette odors.
A properly designed system will not effect your working environment. Articlean's systems use controls and sensors to closely monitor the levels of ozone that are produced. The end result is the right amount of ozone going to each washer, thus removing the possibility of off-gassing issues.
Yes, we'll still use bleach, however we won't be relying on it for disinfection. We'll use it to help with the whitening process on your non-colored linens.
Every laundry is different so this can vary, but typically we are able to cut at least 1 rinse from the programming. When this is the case there is a huge opportunity for savings.
This is a non-intrusive laundry survey that will evaluate your laundry and tell us what kind of benefits you can expect from an ozone installation.
